Training to Write Better

I told you earlier that I don't consider myself that good a writer. Now this is mainly because I haven't really written all that much. Yes, I've done some writing at the university but there you are always given a definite writing task. Having a clearly defined task makes writing much easier, at least for me. On the other hand trying to blog about ideas and topics that exist only as vague concepts in your head is much harder. I've noticed that even when I get an idea about a post, it is quite hard to organize my thoughts into a written form.

So I've decided to practice this. I'm going to do this by writing posts about random topics, about two per week, but might increase or decrease the pace later on. At first I'm focusing more on the improvisational side of writing and as such the posts are not intended to be all that well formed. My writing process is to simply choose a topic, maybe make a quick brainstorming and outlining session, and then just write what comes to mind. My previous post and this one are actually both written in this way. I have to say that it is surprisingly fun too.

Later on I will focus more on planning, editing and polishing posts, but for now it's mostly about improvisation.

Let the Madness Begin

I’ve for a long time wanted to start a blog, but just haven’t. There are two main reasons for this; Firstly, I’m not an experienced writer and secondly, I never seem to be satisfied with the idea I have for a blog.

But all that changes now. I’m throwing all those reasons out and starting the blog. Not next month, not next week, not tomorrow, but today! No more will I worry about how well I write, for I know my writing will improve with time and practice. Nor will I care about the blog idea. In fact I don’t have one. This blog is about nothing and everything. I will write whatever I feel like. I don’t expect to garner a big readership, but that’s ok. This blog is mainly to get myself on with blogging and writing. For it’s about time I stop procrastinating and start taking action.

I expect the posts to be quite raw and scrambled, maybe even hard to decipher. There goes reader-friendliness. But I will try to remedy by writing like I’m having a conversation. Either with you or with myself. The latter type possible again being quite obscure. But this may change, in fact expect things to change as I keep writing, for there is no plan. And when there is no plan things have a hard time staying on track. Which is something that is happening to this post right now.

Anyway, two topics you can expect me to write about are entrepreneurship and lifestyle design, for these are two topics that I’m quite passionate about. Now I’m not an entrepreneur yet, but I’m aiming to be one. So the perspective will be that of ‘how the heck do I become a successful entrepreneur’.

As for the second topic, I have my long-term goals, but I also want to enjoy life to its fullest. In other words I want to achieve my goals while at the same time having fun. For me this is what lifestyle design is all about.

That’s it for now, I’ll be writing again when I can manage to force or trick myself into doing it. :)
