Training to Write Better

I told you earlier that I don't consider myself that good a writer. Now this is mainly because I haven't really written all that much. Yes, I've done some writing at the university but there you are always given a definite writing task. Having a clearly defined task makes writing much easier, at least for me. On the other hand trying to blog about ideas and topics that exist only as vague concepts in your head is much harder. I've noticed that even when I get an idea about a post, it is quite hard to organize my thoughts into a written form.

So I've decided to practice this. I'm going to do this by writing posts about random topics, about two per week, but might increase or decrease the pace later on. At first I'm focusing more on the improvisational side of writing and as such the posts are not intended to be all that well formed. My writing process is to simply choose a topic, maybe make a quick brainstorming and outlining session, and then just write what comes to mind. My previous post and this one are actually both written in this way. I have to say that it is surprisingly fun too.

Later on I will focus more on planning, editing and polishing posts, but for now it's mostly about improvisation.
